Fascinating window details in the heart of the Alps.
A chalet was stripped back to its structural posts and a new 450 m² facility put in place. The challenge posed by this new-build scheme in the mountainous Rhône Alpes region of France consisted in enlarging the original window openings so as to maximise the incident sunshine and countryside views.
After a mere ten-month construction period, the result is impressive: light-flooded spaces with contemporary architectural idioms adding aesthetic accents. On the exterior, large window units with slender, black aluminium frames sit happily with the steamed-larch façades, black aluminium windowsills and black metal patio balustrades. Inside, the large glass areas of the FIN-Vista window walls and FIN-Slide lift-and-slide door with their glossy black aluminium frames help put the perfect spotlight on the larch wall linings. Extra-flat thresholds virtually eliminate the transition between indoors and outdoors.
